Ebrahim, Zainab Alsayed (2018) Mechanical behaviours of grout mixed with fly ash for strata reinforcement. [USQ Project]
Abstract
The study is conducted in order to determine the universal compressive strength of cubic concrete samples in which the cement quantity has been replaced by various amounts of fly ash. The fly ash is known as HS Stratabinder and is provided by Minova Austrailia. The conclusions derived from this study will help in using concrete with fly ash in roof supports in underground mines.
The study used six fly ash percentages (5%,10%,15%,20%,25% and 30%) in order to cast 30 samples (5 of each percentage) for testing in Universal Testing Machine. The samples were mixed with rotating mixer to achieve better bonding. The study found that samples having various amounts of fly ash exhibit compressive strength in the range of 70–90 MPa.
Further studies are required with rectangular samples for testing their tensile strength and bending strength at conditions which replicate on site conditions.
