Rodgers, Adrian (2024) Appropriateness of on-site detention (OSD) within urban brownfield catchments and what effect the implementation of on-site detention tanks (OSD) has on overall sub-catchment performance. [USQ Project]
Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is to assess the appropriateness of on-site detention (OSD) within urban brownfield catchments and what effect the implementation of on-site detention tanks (OSD) has on overall sub-catchment performance. Currently there is a predisposition of Council engineering officers to apply a blanket requirement for the implementation of on-site detention solutions to compact the Queensland urban Drainage Manual and local planning scheme requirements for the control of adverse and nuisance discharges from development sites. This study aims to challenge this position and formulate a selected framework for Council officers to employ when reviewing development site discharge requirements.
The study will use the modelling proficiencies of both 12D Model version 14 and XP Storm for the preparation of the detailed catchment discharge outputs. The results found that whilst the requirement for detention is heightened in brownfield catchments there is a greater need for the performance of receiving stormwater infrastructure to be assessed. In the catchment reviewed it was found that the existing stormwater infrastructure was not designed for the required major storm event and that there are immediate rectifications requirements to be implemented to ensure the catchment can perform the way the initial design intended.
