Leeson, Bryden James (2014) Research into Prefabricated Modular Constrcution and an Investigation into Incorporating Bathroom Pods into Highrise Hotel Building Project. [USQ Project]
Abstract
Prefabrication or prefab for short is often associated with terms such as ‘off-site’, ‘assembly’, ‘ready-cut’ and ‘ready built’. In the construction industry offsite prefabrication construction takes place in many different forms and levels.
Prefabrication has proven to be an overwhelming success in the automobile, shipbuilding and aerospace industries. This has resulted in increased efficiencies in construction time and material usage as well as more ergonomic worker friendly processes. In summary providing an overall leaner construction process. One area where pre-fabrication has proven to be a success in Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom and United States and is now starting to gain momentum in the Australian construction industry is bathroom pod production. As part of this research project into prefabrication in the construction industry a theoretical analysis will be undertaken which investigates the issues involved in incorporating bathroom pods into a high-rise hotel building project.
