Vanguru, Gopinath (2016) Abrasive wear performance of metals under lubricant conditions. Coursework Masters thesis, University of Southern Queensland. (Unpublished)
Abstract
In this current study, the frictional and wear performances of the different metals are investigated under various operating parameters against stainless steel counter-face under lubricant conditions. Block on ring test machine is used for experiments. The damage features occur on worn surfaces and wear mechanism, which were examined by using microscopy. In the result the wear and frictional behavior of all the metals were influenced by the operating parameters, when the frictional behavior compared to others metals like brass exhibited better wear. Here we can observe 3 different mechanisms of wear; they are 2-body abrasion, 3 body abrasion and adhesive.
Furthermore, impact of connected burden on wear rate of mellow steel under oil condition is investigated. Study on the impact of the rough on the contact and wear conduct of gentle steel, build up a lubricant and examine the harm highlights on the well-used surfaces of the mellow steel because of various sliding conditions. An experiment has been conducted for analyzing the rate of wear of steel based on the parameters, applied load, speed and time. Samples are analyzed using microscope and the results indicated that mild steel resists towards high corrosive strength.
