Abstract

Solar energy resource is gaining importance in the world and the installation of the large PV systems is going on in the number of universities. The University of Southern Queensland recently carried out the PV installations in three campuses located at Toowoomba, Springfield, and Ipswich. This is the sustainable energy project developed by USQ. Maintenance of these assets is the key requirement to extract maximum benefits and optimum performance from them over their period of the life cycle.

This research is carried out to develop an asset maintenance plan for the PV installation developed in USQ, Toowoomba. The terminology related to the asset maintenance along with the various kind of the asset maintenance strategies used in the world are studied in the entire project. The different type of failure modes related to PV modules and inverters are studied which follows the calculation of the risk priority number for each component. The MTBF and MTTR calculations are made to implement the maintenance approach in the better way. Along with this, cost of lost generation analysis is performed to provide information about the monetary loss and failure hazards severity without implementation of the asset maintenance plan on this installation.
The asset maintenance plan is suggested based on the research and calculations made for the project. The asset maintenance plan is the integration of the different types of maintenance techniques suitable for these installations based on the reliability centered maintenance which maximizes the availability and performance delivered by the system.
