Abstract
The use of composite material has been increased as it application in aerospace, defense, marine, automobile rises because of their high performance and good mechanical properties. In this experimental project, Flexural and fractural properties of glass fiber mats reinforced epoxy composite is presented. In addition, the principle idea of the research project is to examine the capacity of few glass fiber mat sample and prepare the data as per results. Also, compare the outcomes with a previous work to analysis results. Furthermore, glass fiber mat reinforced epoxy composite has been fabricated to determine the flexural and fractural behavior. The fabrication of composite specimen done by the hand layup method. Three-point bending test was performed to examine the flexure strength of glass fiber composite of 9.5mm thickness while applying vertically load. Similarly, fracture test performed and all experimental data was store at the excel for statistical analysis. Moreover, the obtained load versus crosshead curve of both test has been demonstrated with the scatter plot. The flexural test result demonstrated that all sample shown similar linear increment in the load capacity until the crack start and after attaining maximum load it was observed that dramatically load fall. Similarly, fracture behavior was plotted and it is also shown similar pattern curve but numerical values were different. In the last, detail study of failure mechanism on the specimen fracture surface after experiment performed using scanning electron microscopy morphology and taken magnified picture of fractured surface area.
