Abstract

In 2009 it is estimated that over 60,000 Australians will suffer a stroke. One in five of them will die while more than 88%of the rest will have disabilities. The two main types of stroke that occur are name Ischaemic and Haemorrhagic stroke. Ischaemic stroke occurs because of
a blockage that obstructs the flow of nutrient to the brain, this affects 80% of people. Haemorrhagic stroke is when a blood vessel in the brain burst causing the pressure inside the brain to increase and damage brain tissue.
The aim of this project is to develop and enhance a computer-based system for rehabilitation of stroke patients. The reason projects such as this one is need in today’s world is because of the lack of health care professional to provide the stroke patients with the rehabilitation the need to return to some normality in their lives.
This Project looks at modifying a part to the stroke rehabilitation device to provide patients with a better easier manner in which to get back into society. The overall aim of the project is to create a computer-based rehabilitation environment which would make the rehabilitation process enjoyable for the patient and also make it so that the physiotherapist has time to see
more patients
