Abstract
A computerised reservation system possesses numerous advantages over its
manual counterpart, but full endorsement by smaller organisations might be
hampered by the cost factor. This project examines the booking requirements of
theatres, as well as the type of information required by their managers, and
incorporates some of the desirable features within a Microsoft Access database.
A database has been designed to cater for a 200 seat theatre with a maximum of
two performances per day. In order to keep costs to a minimum it makes use of
a PC which is practically standard office equipment. The database has been
tested, and suggestions on how the specific features of the system could be
improved are made where appropriate. While the system processes manager
requests effectively and provides the treasurer with many advantages compared
to a manual version, more work is required for it to achieve a comparable level
of patron orientated functionality.
