Abstract
Residential construction in Kuwait represent 4% of the total construction project. The residential sector is divided into two main customers bases the Public authority of housing welfare and the private sector. The research aim is to identify and rank the factors affecting the Labour productivity in the private residential construction in Kuwait. To complete the objective, a semi structured questionnaire was constructed and distributed to three different participant groups that are relevant to the residential construction in Kuwait (designers, contractors and project managers). 34 factors were identified to be relevant to the residential sector through and intensive review of literature and was allocated to 5 main categories (1) technological (2) labour (3) external (4) management (5) material. The participant groups were asked to rank those factors and the top 10 most influential factors were (1) rework (2) high temperature (3) lack of labour skills (4) lack of clarity of technical specification (5) lack of labour supervision (6) alteration of orders during execution (7) lack of incentive (8) poor building design (9) shortage of material (10) accident due to poor safety. The result of the research will help comprehend the reasons behind low productivity in the residential sector to will help professionals in the field enhancing the productivity in Kuwait and utilize the workforce efficiently by providing a deeper and clearer understanding of the factors to enhance the labour productivity.
