Mitchell-Donnelly, Jonathan (2018) Exoskeleton Arm Control system: Design, Construct and Evaluate. [USQ Project]
Abstract
This dissertation outlines the process used to design and produce a prototype of an exoskeleton arm that is suitable for use by a construction worker. The step by step process is presented, including the various iterations of the arm design and the constantly changing bracelet design. The theory behind the control system is also explained, and the way it was to be implemented on the prototype is described. A method of selecting the actuation of the arm is detailed, including the addition of a gas strut to reduce the load on the geared DC Motors. While the flowchart governing the programming of the control system is presented, it is not the finished product and the program to control the arm was not well developed as the project did not reach that stage by its due date. A conclusion is presented, but the initial aims of the project were not met; Further work is suggested to complete the project and realise those aims.
