Abstract
People with varying levels of mobility have been apart of the world for a significant period, and as long as people have had varying levels of mobility, there have been devices of people to help them move around. With the increase in the population of the world, the upgrading of infrastructure preexisting buildings can not keep up with the progression. The people who suffer the most are the one most limited in the abilities to be mobile and engage in an active lifestyle.
A literature review, determining the mechanics behind wheelchair usage, and configurations and the standards that help govern them. Exploring the requirements posed on buildings and their requirements to provides users with access. While evaluating current wheelchairs and solution the market, assisting with creating a design matrix to review and evaluate wheelchair designs.
Undertaking a case study to determine the limitations posed to users while in public spaces that have not been updated in a significant period. While collecting all the data to create three conceptual wheelchair designs to assist people with; propulsion, navigation of rough terrain and overcoming obstacles.
While creating engineering drawing and conducting some Finite Element Analysis, to determine the quality of the conceptual designs.
