Abstract

Energy that are obtained from fossil fuels have negative impacts on the environment due to the greenhouse gas effect. Recently, there is an energy requirement globally which turned the focus on the energy production from renewable sources. One of the renewable sources of renewable energy is biomass such as Bagasse. Nowadays, there are lots of research related to production of ethanol from bagasse. Actually, ethanol blend with petrol became a common fuel.

Bagasse a widely available agricultural residue is a good source for liquid biofuel. The main focus of this research is to convert the lignocellulose materials in bagasse into ethanol. The challenge is to breakdown the complex structure of the lignocellulose into simpler substances. The breakdown process can be achieved by pre-treatment process such as chemical, thermal, mechanical, microwave etc. The method adopted in this research was a combination of grinding, chemical and microwave. The results show ethanol quantity has been increased comparing to the untreated ones.
