Abstract
Solar energy generation technology is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sectors in the world. It is an effective and fully reliable alternative for generating eco-friendly energy without having hazardous greenhouse gas. Government policies and strategies, falling investment costs and risks are projected to be the main factors underpinning future growth in world of solar energy utilization. Preliminary review of this research pointed out that due to lack of clear policies and without having a specific framework for solar assets, Australia is lagging behind in the production of solar energy than Europe and Asian countries despite having vast capabilities such as highest solar radiation per kilometre square than anywhere else on planet. Reasons for the current state of affairs include Australia lacking clear policies and framework that could guide the use of solar energy as well as to manage the solar farms. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop a solar asset management framework that can be used in large scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Australia. The systematic literature review approach is adopted as a research methodology in order to identify and compare existing asset management frameworks. This methodology also assists to develop an integrated asset management framework for solar farms in Australia and explain the primary and secondary elements of the framework and their inter-relationships. The developed framework has the potential to guide the solar farms in Australia to manage their assets effectively and efficiently by minimising whole of-life cycle costs, and maximising the utilisation of assets.
