Abstract

By researching reverse osmosis technology, through a comprehensive search of both
engineering and science fields, a conceptual reverse osmosis design was developed for
use by disaster relief agencies throughout the world. The reverse osmosis design is
broken into three main sections; pre-membrane treatment, membrane treatment and
post-membrane treatment areas.
The pre-membrane treatment area, has the ability to collect raw water from a variety of
sources; establish whether raw water quality is sufficient, discharge the water safely if
not; remove small particles of debris; and pressurise the raw water for further treatment.
It also contains a dosing system that removes chlorine from the raw water, which can
cause damage to polyamide membranes.
